In the Castle Park, circa 1905, oil on canvas, signed lower right Al. Kalvoda; painting dimensions 66 × 94 cm. The presented work ranks among the very successful, significant, and market-sought early works by Alois Kalvoda. As in his landscape paintings of this period, the artist makes use of strong light contrasts as well as the contrast between the cool-toned foreground and the warmer palette of the distant landscape. He also employs the complementary relationship between a rich range of green tones and boldly applied red. The fresh coloration, positive conception, and the large format chosen by the artist render this work an artifact of high collector value.
